CONFUSION REIGNS OVER THE DATE OF "THE LONG SHIPS." I WOULD HAVE BEEN 4 OR 5 YEARS OLD AND WILL ALWAYS SEE IN MY MIND THE WHOLE FILM.....AB FAB SUCH AN IMPRESSION IT MADE ON ME. I GET PISSED OFF THAT IT'S NOT RUN ON TELLY SINCE..HAVE THEY FORGOTTEN ABOUT IT ? MY HUSBAND THINKS I'M NUTS BUT THEN HE'S 7 YEARS YOUNGER THAN I SO HE MISSED IT .. ANY SITES WHICH CAN DOWNLOAD A SEQUENCE WOULD WELCOME THE REMINISCENCE IN MY DOTAGE. AGAIN, THANKS.

I'm pretty sure the 1963 date listed in the review is accurate. Some sources list the date a film was in production, while others give the year it was released in theaters. Usually these are pretty close if not the same, unless the film was shelved for some length of time.

Unfortunately, I don't have the bandwidth on this site to support downloads of movie clips.

The full movie is available for purchase in VHS format at www.videoflicks.com (Simply go to the website and type "long ships" in the search box.) HOWEVER, it appears the video is only available in NTSC format. I noticed from your e-mail address that you're in the UK, which I believe uses the PAL format. I might suggest searching the internet to see if anyone carries the video in PAL. (If you're wondering, I have no affiliation with videoflicks.com.)

Dear ‘net-monster’,

First I’d like to congratulate you on your website. I bookmarked it right away.

I was looking for some info on Brotherhood of the Wolf, to find out whether it was referring to an old legend or historical event. Your site was a great help. I thought you might be interested in a documentary on THE BEAST OF GEVAUDAN:

http://www.tvfi.com/archives/2001/sunnyside2001/BeastFr.htm

It seems that the man who shot the beast, was also its master/creator. According to the documentary, some of the victims’ clothes were removed (taken off). This would indicate human involvement.

Regards,

Erik D.

When I received the above e-mail, the link Erik cites was working. Unfortunately, it's now dead. Apologies to Erik and my readers for the delay in getting his message posted.

I'll have to hunt around to see if I can find more information about this. I'm particularly curious where this French documentary uncovered its information, since none of the accounts I've read mentioned any human accomplices.

Rating: A

The subject line refers to your website "netmonster". Really great! A.o.t. I love to read reviews of movies not being shown in Sweden yet, and your site is definitely most entertaining. My favorite reading so far is the thorough discussion about the plot in Minority report...

But - and this is a big "but" - why don't you review the excellent masterpiece "Truman Show"? Don't care if you like this film or not (you HAVE seen it, huh?) The plot is original, least to say, and it would really make its place on your site. Also if you gave it an "F". Especially then.

I know the film was made a few years ago (Swedish premiere: Nov 1998) but this doesn't matter, right?

This is just my humble opinion. But - please consider it.

Once again: site is really great!

PS - quick question: is there a Vanilla sky painting by Monet, or is it as your review implies (?) just invented for the movie? The latter would make this great movie a little less great to me...

Yes, I'm very familiar with The Truman Show. It was released a couple of years before I started my website, so it isn't included. I thought it was okay, but not something I'd care to see over. The concept was interesting; I just thought many of the scenes between Jim Carrey and his false family members and friends lacked emotional impact. Once you realized the dialogue was all artificial, the scenes lost any chance of being meaningful. I certainly wouldn't rate the film an "F" - maybe a "C+" or a "B-".

As for the "Vanilla Sky" painting, it's possible it could be a real painting, but some quick research produced no evidence that it actually existed. And so far, Monet hasn't answered any of my e-mails.
