How much stock do you own in the studio that made "Wonder Boys?" That
has got to be the most boring movie that I've seen in the last six
months. I agree that Michael Douglas departed from the usual character
that he's played a million times (Fatal Attraction, Basic Instinct, A
Perfect Murder, etc.) but if you want to see him play a different
character in a GOOD movie, check out "Falling Down" (circa 1992).
Well, if Wonder Boys wasn't to your taste, maybe you'd prefer Erin Brockovich. The first is a film constructed entirely around the concept of the wonderboy. The second is a film constructed entirely around the concept of the wonderbra.
As for Falling Down, this entire website is a sort of "Falling Down".

Ya know, people often ask me if gorgeous, green-eyed fashion models ever write in to compliment me on my site. And I say, "Sure. Happens all the time." But nobody ever believes me.

I found it curious that you gave MI:2 the same grade as American Beauty. I also saw that you gave Stuart Little a higher grade than American Beauty. I realize that you were probably grading it from a kid's stand point, but I still don't understand how you could give it a higher grade.
Despite the fact that I don't agree with some of your opinions I think you did a good job putting the site together. I don't know much in the way of making web pages, but yours looks good.
The apparent inconsistencies between grades on different movies is a problem I've thought about in detail. Frankly, I've decided such inconsistencies are inevitable, in the sense that comparing a children's movie such as Stuart Little to one dealing with adult themes (such as American Beauty) is the proverbial case of comparing apples to oranges. By giving Stuart Little a B, I'm not necessarily saying it's a better film than American Beauty, or that, given the choice between watching either one over, I'd choose Stuart Little. What I am saying is that I felt American Beauty had serious flaws in the type of film it was trying to be, while Stuart Little acheived its goals with more success.
Your comment about Mission Impossible: 2 was also on the money. If you remember, although I gave it a B-, I also ragged on it pretty bad in places. Basically, what I was saying was that it was a slight cut above the average action movie, so if you're in the mood for that type of film it would probably satisfy you. You'll notice that another action film released at about the same time, Gone in 60 Seconds, received a B from me. In this case, both films are similar, so that concluding I preferred 60 Seconds to MI: 2 is legitimate.
In summary, I guess what I'm saying is it's more useful to take each film individually, and compare the grade to the "What do the ratings mean?" scale posted on my website, than it is to try to compare one film's grade to another.

Found your web page searching for information on Rashomon. Loved your take.
Because your tilt on the universals mirror my own, naturally, I find you brilliant.
Great site. Merci.
Eileen
Ah yes, that would be in that long-forgotten, cobweb and dust covered section of the site called "Classic Films". Now that you reminded me that section exists, I suppose I should start updating it again...
Thanks for your words of encouragement.
